From The FEniCS project

The FEniCS Book
Together with Springer Verlag, we are preparing a book to summarize the state of FEniCS. The book will discuss the theoretical foundations for the current components of FEniCS, function as a reference for users, and showcase interesting applications built with FEniCS. The tentative title for the book is Automated Scientific Computing.
The deadline for submission of chapter abstracts (authors and tentative title) is October 10 2009.
The deadline for submission of chapters is May 1 2009, after which we will have a review process.
A LaTeX template with instructions for authors is available below.
It is emphasized that receiving preliminary acknowledgment from the editors for a suggested chapter is no guarantee that the chapter will be included in the printed book. That will depend on the outcome of the review process.
It is also emphasized that chapters should either discuss current FEniCS projects (in a tutorial style), summarize (already published) theoretical results relevant for the FEniCS software, or discuss the use of FEniCS in applications.
Editors
The book is edited by Anders Logg, Kent-Andre Mardal, and Garth N. Wells.
Outline
Introduction (20-50 pages)
Tutorial (20-30 pages)
Part I: Methodology (10 x 15 pages)
This part will contain summaries/reviews of published results relevant for the FEniCS software.
Part II: Implementation (10 x 30 pages)
This part will give a detailed presentation of the FEniCS packages and their design by the package authors, more in the style of tutorials than journal papers. Other contributions may include discussions of particular aspects not related to a specific package like code generation and interface design.
Part III: Application (10 x 15 pages)
This part will demonstrate interesting applications where FEniCS has been used as the computing platform. It would be very interesting to receive contributions from people outside the circle of package authors.
Instructions for authors
A LaTeX template with instructions for authors is available here. Unpack the archive and read the instructions in the README file.
The book may be accessed from the FEniCS Book Launchpad page. Authors should join the team FEniCS Authors and subscribe to the team's mailing list.
